WorkflowMax Investigates: Simplifying Agency Life

Investigation

As a marketing manager who wears a lot of hats, I can relate to many of the same rewards and challenges faced by most creative agencies. Based on my own experience, I enjoy sharing tips I’ve learned and resources that have helped me grow as a professional.

However, since I don’t technically work at a creative agency, I wanted to connect with some of the industry’s top influencers to hear their perspectives as well. Here’s a preview of the daily tasks they wish they could simplify in their creative fields.

Creative Agency Wish List: Simplifying One Daily Task

Lisa Barone (@LisaBarone), VP of Strategy at Overit.

Email is the thing that’s suffered the most for me over the years. It’s too easy to read something and lose it. Or to not read it and have it buried three pages deep in your inbox within 12 hours. Or to let email become a roadblock to progress rather than something that expedites processes.

Deirdre Breakenridge (@dbreakenridge), CEO of Pure Performance Communications.

The biggest task that I would like to simplify would be the time spent on email. Email is not going away, but it continues to grow in your inbox. Even with tools to edit documents in real-time, email still requires a tremendous amount of time and attention. If only Siri could take that extra step to help with our emails!

David Murdico (@DavidMurdico), Creative Director and Managing Partner of Supercool Creative Agency.

If I could simply one daily task it would be prioritizing all of my other daily tasks. I typically start the morning with a well-prioritized to-do list, but often fall victim to my email inbox and phone calls rather than staying on point. The answer is simply discipline and having a method of getting everything done each day and rolling in new priorities as they come.

Looks like simplifying email prioritization and management is a common item on our influencers’ wish lists. I can certainly relate, and have experimented with a handful of solutions to try to simplify this obligatory daily task.

While I can’t control the amount of emails I receive in a given day, I have spent time researching ways to better manage my email workload and tips to prioritize my to-do list. Here are a few articles that have helped me tidy up these timely tasks:

What other tips do you have that have helped you manage your inbox or prioritize tasks? Share your insight in our comments section below and you could be featured in our next “Influencers” post!
