IT Companies: 5 Services You Can Offer To Increase Profit

Slow-Computer

As an IT company, you might feel like you’ve hit a wall when it comes to building profit. You can only raise your hourly rate so high, and you don’t want to expand the team, so how do you continue to grow the company?

It requires a bit of imagination, but there are plenty of additional services your firm could offer that demand a higher price point. Here are just five ideas for your IT company:

Service 1: Computer Speed Audits

When I bought my computer, five years ago now, it was shiny. It was fast. It looked like it belonged on the Starship Enterprise.

Now, it's not so shiny, or so fast. There are pawprints on the screen from the cat continually attempting to catch the cursor. There are crumbs between the keyboards, and the CD slot doesn’t work because I accidentally pushed an SD card into it. (yes, I am clearly not a person who is meant to own a computer).

And the best part is, after I push the start button, I've got time to make a coffee, put a load of washing on, and solve world hunger before it's fully booted up.

However, many computer users don’t see this as a good thing, and some IT companies offer a speed audit service; for a fee they will clear a computer of all that accumulated junk - making it speedy again. You would not believe how popular this type of service is.

I had a friend in university who started doing this service for fellow students for a small fee. After a few months, he had to cut back to part time classes to keep up with the demand. His little business paid for his entire degree.

Service 2: Business Consulting

Got a few business clients? Doing installations and basic troubleshooting? Have you ever thought about offering additional services?

As IT business consultants, you can assess a company's needs to suggest products that will fit best. You can then work with them on a plan to implement those products.

Many software companies offer special programs for IT companies, Here at WorkflowMax, we have an awesome partner program for IT companies, so you can help your clients get set up with WorkflowMax and Xero.

Service 3: Emergency Technical Support

Sometimes, your computer stops working, and it's a huge nuisance. Sometimes, your computer stops working, and it contains an assignment or presentation you absolutely need by tomorrow, or in three hours time, and you will pay any amount of money to get that file back.

If you can offer a super-fast turnaround for a premium price, you'll be surprised how many customers you'll get for this service. When computers break, it's always when something is needed urgently. Get a company/person back up-and-running, and they'll be happy to pay a premium fee.

Service 4: Training Courses

And now that you’ve recommended a particular suite of products for a business, everyone in the company is going to need some form of training to get them up-to-speed. Getting into training can be a great way to improve profits because it usually has a higher rate per-hour than general services.

Service 5: Website Design

Here’s one you might not have thought of. As IT experts, you happen to spend an awful lot of time getting to know what does, and doesn’t work on the internet. Many creative agencies know how to make a website look pretty, but you know how to make it perform. Why not combine forces with some of your local graphic designers or smaller agencies to work on websites together? They can take care of the design side, and you can code the website and make it run beautifully.

If you’re willing to expand into this area and can get some talented freelancers / agencies on board, web design can be quite lucrative, and if the client requires ongoing services like e-commerce software, you can retain them for many years to come.Does your IT company want to improve your profit margins without taking on more staff? Try one or more of these ideas and see if you can start improving your bottom line.
